Why Frequency Matching Matters

Golf shafts flex during a swing, storing and releasing energy to influence ball flight, distance, and accuracy. If the stiffness (or flex) varies inconsistently across a set, a golfer might need to adjust their swing for each club, leading to inconsistent results. Frequency matching addresses this by ensuring:

  1. Consistency: Each club feels and performs similarly relative to its length.
  2. Precision: It fine-tunes the fit beyond basic flex categories, especially important for skilled players or those with specific swing characteristics.
  3. Customization: It allows club fitters to tailor a set to a golfer’s swing speed, tempo, and preferences.

What is a Loft and Lie Machine?

A loft and lie machine is a specialized piece of equipment used by golf club fitters and builders to measure and adjust the loft and lie angles of golf clubs, particularly irons, wedges, and sometimes putters. These adjustments ensure that a club’s specifications match a golfer’s swing characteristics, improving consistency, accuracy, and ball flight.

  • Loft Angle: The angle of the clubface relative to vertical, affecting launch angle and distance. For example, a 7-iron might have a loft of 34°.
  • Lie Angle: The angle between the shaft and the ground when the club is soled properly, influencing shot direction. A lie angle too upright or flat can cause pulls or pushes.

The machine clamps a club securely, measures its current angles, and allows the fitter to bend the clubhead to the desired specifications using a bending bar.

What is a Gripping Machine?

A gripping machine (or gripping station) is a specialized tool designed to streamline the process of installing or replacing grips on golf clubs. It typically consists of a sturdy frame or clamp system that holds the club securely, along with features like tape dispensers, solvent trays, and alignment guides. These machines are used by club fitters, repair shops, and DIY enthusiasts to ensure grips are applied consistently, securely, and with proper alignment.

Unlike manual regripping (using a vise, solvent, and tape by hand), a gripping machine improves efficiency and precision, especially for high-volume work. Examples include the GolfWorks GGS Gripping Station, Golf Mechanix Professional Gripping Station, or Mitchell Golf Re-Gripping Station.

Together, they create a fully optimized set of clubs, tailored to a golfer’s unique needs. Offering both starting at $5 per club makes these services accessible while allowing room for upselling premium options.
